About the Show
Our debut production, Brown Noise, explores the contrasting lives of Medha and Rish, two South Asian-Canadians navigating the complexities of identity, belonging, and cultural expectations. Medha, a first-generation Canadian, and Rish, a "not-so-fresh-off-the-boat" immigrant, come from different walks of life, but their shared experiences and ideological differences create a perfect storm of comedic chaos.
Through a series of stand-up, sketch comedy, and heartfelt storytelling moments, the show dives into the comedic and sometimes painful contrasts of their experiences. The show is raw, honest, and unapologetically funny, exploring the struggles of being caught between two cultures with heart and humour.
Brown Noise is a celebration of the immigrant experience in all its contradictions.

Our Story and Vision
Jhumka Theatre is a dynamic new company based in Toronto, dedicated to telling authentic South Asian-Canadian stories through a blend of humour, honesty, and cultural depth. Our mission is to create space for underrepresented voices, offering perspectives that challenge, entertain, and foster connection within both the South Asian and broader Canadian communities. Through our work, we aim to spark conversation about identity, belonging, and the shared experiences that bind us all-- no matter where we come from.
At Jhumka, we believe theatre should reflect the diversity of the world around us, offering audiences both moments of laughter and reflection. We embrace the beauty of storytelling, the power of laughter, and the catharsis that comes with seeing our own experiences reflected on stage.

Creative Director
Medha Arora
Actor, Dancer, Playwright, Creative.
When Medha isn't wearing one of her multidisciplinary hats, she likes to go on long walks powered by her Bollywood playlists. With a background in theatre, marketing, and public speaking, she leads with both creative vision and a strong commitment to community impact. Medha is passionate about telling stories that centre joy, identity, and the in-between spaces of the South Asian-Canadian experience.
Founder & Executive Producer
Rishabh Kalra
Producer, Director, Creator, Actor.
With a background in finance, marketing, and live events, Rishabh brings a strategic lens to creative production, balancing artistic vision with operational excellence. Rish tells stories with heart and humour, drawing from him experiences being a not-so-fresh-off-the-boat immigrant in Canada. He believes in comedy that cracks you up- and opens you up- to new perspectives.
